Another perfect day in La Jolla. The Sea Lions are out sunning on the rocks, leopard sharks are still here, the reserve is over flowing with life today. Our little sea turtle friend is still hanging out by the boat launch. We are still celebrating the success of our Brown Pelicans…they were taken off the endangered species list last Wednesday. There are over 650,000 now living in their natural habitats. One of which is right here in La Jolla.
70 Degrees and Sunny
November 23rd, 2009Dolphins courting in the La Jolla Marine Reserve
July 11th, 2009This was a truly amazing day to be on the water at the reserve. A male bottlenose was courting a cute little female. He did back flips and spins, jumping completely out of the water. He was exhibiting another interesting behavior that was a like spiral around the female. It was an amazing display of nature.
The La Jolla eco marine reserve is a local Galapagos during the Summer months.
Great weather for biking
June 13th, 2009June has brought us great weather for the plunge tour. The views from the top of Soledad are beautiful, North along the shoreline, South across Mission Bay and then there are the East county mountains. We are lucky to have such scenery from the middle of the city. Of course it is Americas finest city.
Amazing snorkeling at the caves
May 24th, 2009Huge spiny lobster, playful sea lions, giant black sea bass and many other beautiful creatures. All in a 2 hour snorkel trip with HBK.
encounters with Sea Lions
May 24th, 2009Wow! 800 pounds of sea lion just inches from my face mask. The huge male sea lion lay there while the surge pushed me towards him. He casually turned and blew air into my face then rolled over and closed his eyes as he rested on the surface.
Green sea turtles, Dolphins, bat rays
April 21st, 2009On yesterdays tours we saw two green sea
turtles, one was huge. There was also a pod
bottlenose dolphin and a large bat ray. Another amazing day in paradise.
awesome marine life
April 17th, 2009today I was surprised by a large bat ray
swimming under my kayak near the caves.
Then, as I paddled over an area with patches
of bright green sea grass surrounding the sandy bottom, a large white sea bass slowly swam
under my kayak in about 4 feet of water.
Adrenaline Rush
March 26th, 2009Launching a dozen boats through high surf and no one capsizing is quite a rush. Lance and I launched a group of lacrosse players for a late morning whale watch trip. The waves were 3 – 4 feet and steep so some of the boats caught air but nobody went swimming, whew, how exciting! Once we got past the surf the sea was quite calm. We saw white sided dolphin and sea lions but no whales on this trip.
just another day…
March 20th, 2009Just another normal day at the shores. Some fun loving sea lions, an ocean full of garibaldi, and beautiful leopard sharks.
snorkeling La Jolla Bay
March 16th, 2009Joshua, Michelle and I swam through hundreds, maybe a thousand baby surfperch while snorkeling near the clam cave. We also saw a horned shark and were entertained by a large female sea lion. We finished our snorkel tour over in the shores, swimming with Leopard Sharks. Made the 56 degree water worth it brrrrr…
