Another perfect day in La Jolla.  The Sea Lions are out sunning on the rocks, leopard sharks are still here, the reserve is over flowing with life today.  Our little sea turtle friend is still hanging out by the boat launch.  We are still celebrating the success of our Brown Pelicans…they were taken off the endangered species list last Wednesday.  There are over 650,000 now living in their natural habitats. One of which is right here in La Jolla.

This was a truly amazing day to be on the water at the reserve. A male bottlenose was courting a cute little female. He did back flips and spins,  jumping completely out of the water.  He was exhibiting another interesting  behavior that was a like spiral around the female. It was an amazing display of nature.
The La Jolla eco marine reserve is a local Galapagos during the Summer months.

June has brought us great weather for the plunge tour. The views from the top of Soledad are beautiful, North along the shoreline, South across Mission Bay and then there are the East county mountains. We are lucky to have such scenery from the middle of the city. Of course it is Americas finest city.

Huge spiny lobster, playful sea lions, giant black sea bass and many other beautiful creatures. All in a 2 hour snorkel trip with HBK.

Wow! 800 pounds of sea lion just inches from my face mask. The huge male sea lion lay there while the surge pushed me towards him. He casually turned and blew air into my face then rolled over and closed his eyes as he rested on the surface.

On yesterdays tours we saw two green sea
turtles, one was huge. There was also a pod
bottlenose dolphin and a large bat ray. Another amazing day in paradise.

Then, as I paddled over an area with patches
of bright green sea grass surrounding the sandy bottom, a large white sea bass slowly swam
under my kayak in about 4 feet of water.

Launching a dozen boats through high surf and no one capsizing is quite a rush. Lance and I launched a group of lacrosse players for a late morning whale watch trip. The waves were 3 – 4 feet and steep so some of the boats caught air but nobody went swimming, whew, how exciting! Once we got past the surf the sea was quite calm. We saw white sided dolphin and sea lions but no whales on this trip.
